The deep vaults of the Sunless Skein are more like a walk in the park with the new Coal. With Lava Surge alone, I can take out distant ranged fighters. I used to have to approach slowly with evasive jumps, now I can let them jump a bit. Coal has suddenly become really strong. However, I’m inclined to cast stronger spells now and realise that Coal is becoming a mana hole. I have to take a step back or find a way to use mana more sparingly or even regenerate mana. I don’t like spending Vigour on mana stones.
There are currently no special enemies or bosses in Sunless Skein, it’s rather annoying to have to deal with the camera perspective here. I sometimes get surrounded without seeing it or have to dodge blows while the camera shows the opponent’s feet.
I think the camera is the biggest criticism of Lords of the Fallen at the moment, but apart from that I’m clearly having fun. For me personally, I only discover the fun of the game after a certain amount of time, when I find my way around better. But there’s still a lot I don’t know. For example, up to this point I had the suspicion that you could ignore the fire in the Umbral Realm, but as you can see in the outdoor area of Sunless Skein, this is not the case.
Overall, however, I am now enjoying the Pyromane Coal much more, it invites you to experiment and play. I realise that I enjoy it when the opponent slowly melts into the lava. Let’s see if it stays that way or if it gets tougher again. At the moment, after the dry spell, I’m also enjoying all the little comforts, which is how I imagined a pyromaniac would be.
