And that’s when it happened, the end of the game. I have to say, I’m really none the wiser. Maybe it’s just me, but I still don’t know what the game is actually about. I like the Bone Warrior, he seems to have saved me, but I don’t know what this whole world or existence is about. Who are all these beings, what are these fanatics doing? Who am I anyway? What is this anomaly? What have I actually done and achieved here?
Maybe it’s supposed to make you think, but maybe they just didn’t feel like writing a story and left it up to the player to make something up.
Well, what remains to be said… the controls are very awkward. The world often feels a bit loveless. The sound is well done, as is the art design. The game still looks like a sketch of a game, a kind of rough version to test how it works. I like the world and the design, but somehow it’s just a sketch… It lacks detail and credibility. There are a lot of great ideas and I like this dark dystopian lonely ambience. The developers have done a really great job with it. The weapons and the techtree are also well done, not a masterpiece, but solid.
I’m really in two minds about the game, the design and the soundtrack are really well done. However, the ambient sound is very one-dimensional (almost always just wind). Here I can gladly recommend a Dark Souls or Lords of the Fallen. You can get a lot more out of them.
The design of the bosses…. hmmm…. Cool design ideas, but unfortunately they’re all the same in terms of mechanics. Dodge, run around, wait for a time window, do damage, run around again and dodge, occasionally jump. The bosses have different animations, but the tactics are very similar.
What I found outstanding here, however, was the discovery. I wanted to see everything and was always waiting to see what was around the next bend. Anything could really happen, sometimes you ran far into the furthest corner, crawled through caves into the furthest corner and found…. nothing… You could never be sure if there was something great somewhere (a new weapon or armor) or just an ingredient.
Let’s move on to the ingredients for crafting… my god I was spammed. The things I somehow carried around with me and didn’t need – it was really a lot. But maybe with my 2HD hammer warrior I got something like the strongest class and with a different skill I would need all these things. Maybe I’ll play my Technomancer when I feel like it. But the problem is now… the exploration is gone, I know pretty much all the areas. So that just leaves the game mechanics. Let’s see…
