After my Dark Soul time, I finally started Elden Ring. I know next to nothing about Elden Ring, so I’m curious to see if it lives up to the hype. I started with Arelion the Knight, because I think that if it’s your first time in a new From Software game, you can’t go far wrong with Arelion.
What strikes me immediately… the graphics. It’s much more colourful and less gloomy. The controls are almost identical (which I find very good). I found the ambient music annoying after only ten minutes and had to turn it down.
And then I stood there… disoriented. Where is it going? What exactly should I do? Where is my Bonfire?
After 1.5 hours I still don’t really know what to do. In Dark Souls there was always a thread, a mission. This is missing here. I’m here, there’s the map, this is the area you’re in – have fun.
Graphically, Elden Ring looks a bit like Dark Souls spent too much time with World of Warcraft
I hope I learn a few more things quickly. I think the big monsters at the gates are the clue – if I’m too strong, you’re too weak. So we’re going to do some equipment gathering and attribute upgrades.
There’s also a new horse – I don’t know if I like it yet, I’m still clearly at a disadvantage when fighting on a horse.
I think I’ll explore the starting area further and look around for better equipment.
