The knight really gives you security. It plays a little more straightforward, but it also plays differently. With him as a melee fighter, I have problems with some enemies where I just marched through with other classes. The NPC in front of the elevator in the undead settlement was one of those cases. With a ranged fighter, you calmly lure him behind you, dodge him from time to time, and then continue shooting happily.

With Arelion and his short-range broadsword, things were much more difficult. But even there you have to praise the designers, there is always at least one way, you just have to figure out how to do it best. This is also the reason why I don’t read guides before the first playthrough, of course I miss something here and there, but then you can play it a second time with guides.

I like Dark Souls just because I often have to fiddle a bit in addition to skill. I also notice clear progress and am very much looking forward to the rest of the game. But I also love exploring new character classes that I might have been closed to before. A class only opens up once you’ve mastered a few problems with it. You have to be prepared to not get ahead with the standard tactics.

Next: Arelion urgently needs a crossbow 😀
