Back at the cemetery, a dying guard encouraged me to run quickly to the cathedral. On the way, I found a mini arena where you could compete against several opponents one after the other. These opponents were now very easy again. Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m travelling through the different areas in the wrong order.
But before I went to the cathedral, I wanted to take a closer look at the cemetery, as I discovered on arrival that it was very busy again.
There was a crypt open in the cemetery and I thought I’d have a look inside. Before I knew it I was in a new area – the catacombs.
Narrow corridors, large knights with shields, little room to move.
But what I noticed compared to Lords of the Fallen 2023 – the camera is better. It’s still not good, but it also jumps behind objects or walls less often. I’ve also only had one crash so far. In terms of gameplay, Lords of the Fallen is a bit more in the direction of turn-based action. If I have a heavy weapon and want to deal a blow, it sometimes takes two seconds before the blow reaches the opponent. However, the opponent is usually already somewhere else or has interrupted me in the meantime.
I can imagine that you should only use big weapons if you are travelling very lightly. It would also be kind of unfair if you were wearing thick armour and carrying a giant axe or hammer around with you and striking quickly.
Of course, there is a boss waiting at the end of the catacombs – the champion.
It was a bit tricky before I found out what tactics the designers had come up with. You could actually forget about melee combat with him, he unpacks his quick, powerful combo in close range, which no tower shield can hold. Then I thought that you hit him in the back when he runs into a wall… You can forget it, he turns round too quickly for me. More by accident than anything else, I then rammed the tower shield into the ground and lo and behold… boom, he staggered and it was enough to give him two strong blows.
Let’s get back to the weapon, I have some really great weapons with me, but… I need runes. I kind of like my poisoning. If the opponent runs away and it’s still ticking down a bit, not bad. Problem is, I somehow can’t find any more poisoning runes. In general, some kind of merchant would have done me good. Maybe there’s still a possibility, but I think I’m more likely to understand the game when I’m almost at the end.
Next stop – the cathedral.
