11 – The Desert

The desert… At first I thought it was an ice desert. But after it became daylight there was no ice, just bone-dry, trickling hot sand.
The desert was the most difficult area so far, the level of difficulty increased significantly. Especially those berserkers with two axes or scimitars are a challenge. Many new enemy types, including strange tree creatures that move towards you like circular saws and do very good damage with two scimitars. But that wouldn’t be enough if they didn’t also cast spells. Some of these spells can kill me instantly.

I still managed to fight my way through and took down another boss (the worm lord). It wasn’t a walk in the park though, I almost feel like I shouldn’t be in this area yet. But the urge to explore won out, I had to search every corner to make sure I didn’t lose a big blunt weapon.

In terms of design, the desert is definitely a good change of pace without being a break in style, you can tell they’ve really made an effort. However, the camera is often the worst enemy. Especially in confined spaces, it’s a big disadvantage if you can’t see the enemy because some object in the foreground is obscuring everything.
Where to next? Deluge and Uranopolis are still on the list.
