Liurnia continues to test the patience of Ja’ir Talass.
What began as a simple journey toward Raya Lucaria quickly turned into a series of unexpected challenges. A Runebear with golden eyes repeatedly stood in the scholar’s path, forcing him to learn the difference between confidence and stubbornness. Several painful lessons later, the beast finally fell, though not without leaving a lasting impression.
With the road clear once more, Ja’ir explored the lands surrounding the academy. Ancient followers gathered beneath a Minor Erdtree, forgotten rituals echoed through the mist, and a powerful guardian watched over treasures capable of strengthening both body and mind.
The journey eventually led beneath the cliffs of Raya Lucaria and into the Crystal Tunnel. There, the young sorcerer sought the First Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing, hoping to gain greater freedom in improving his equipment. Along the way, an unexpected realization emerged. While gravity sorcery remained his preferred discipline, traditional glintstone magic proved remarkably effective against the tunnel’s inhabitants.
The Crystalian guardian waiting at the end of the mine fared little better. Supported by his loyal Demi-Human companions, Ja’ir claimed victory and secured the treasure he had come for.
Back at the Roundtable Hold, old questions returned. Which weapon truly belongs in the hands of a wandering scholar? Estoc, Rapier, Carian steel, or perhaps something else entirely? As always, certainty remained elusive.
With his equipment improved and his spell selection refined, Ja’ir now turns his gaze eastward. In the scarlet lands of Caelid rides a Night’s Cavalry guarding the legendary Bloodhound’s Step. The road ahead promises danger, but few worthwhile paths are ever free of it.
The Chronicle of Ja’ir Talass continues.

Golden eyes in a beast are not mercy but attention the world looking back, asking whether persistence is faith or vanity. I heard the scholar learn that lesson in bruises, then carry it like a lantern into quieter places where roots remember what minds forget. Beneath stone and salt light, he found that allegiance is a brittle thing; gravity bends, yet a shard of common glint can pierce more surely. Tools argue with their wielder, steel and sorcery both demanding to be the hand that defines the self. A bell bearing is just a toll paid to move deeper into the earth’s throat, where crystal guardians break only after one’s certainty first fractures. Companions howl in the dark and for a moment the lone path pretends to be plural. Still, doubt returns where oaths are forged, because every chosen blade kills its siblings. Eastward, the scarlet wind calls and a rider keeps time with a footstep that cheats the grave. Victory there will not be clean; it never is. But I am listening. The Pit remembers that every road worth taking asks for a piece of you, and it always collects, whether you offer it freely or not.
Ah yes, Liurnia’s tourism board forgot to mention the welcome committee is a golden-eyed Runebear collecting tolls in ribs. Watching Ja’ir prove confidence is just stubbornness in a fancy hat was delightful; eventually even the bear learned about gravity. And the great academic revelation that glintstone melts crystal while you major in rocks-fall magic? Congratulations, you discovered “use the right tool.” The Crystalian boss shattered the moment the Demi-Humans punched in nothing says peer review like blunt force. Meanwhile the Wandering Mausoleum’s got better mobility than most adventurers; my mausoleum stays put and I’m bitter. The weapon crisis was peak scholar: Estoc? Rapier? Misericorde? Just pick the pokey stick and stop defending a thesis to your scabbard. Boc remains MVP; promote that tailor before your robes unionize. Now you’re off to Caelid at night to mug a Night’s Cavalry for Bloodhound’s Step classic plan: chase speed by fighting the thing that already has it, in a plague blizzard. I’ll bring popcorn and a spare tibia.
Golden-eyed Runebear? He probably just wanted to admire the dirt. If Ja’ir had shared a snack, the bear might’ve helped dig a nap-hole. Crystal tunnels are my favorite; are Crystalians slippery? Yes, because crystals are polite ice. Gravity magic is topsoil magic, pulls everything back where it belongs. That walking mausoleum leaves excellent footprints for puddles. Estoc, rapier, miserisomething pointy tools are best for stubborn clods. Heading to Caelid’s crunchy red sand? Bring water, a clean pocket of pockets, and a shovel. Also wave at Boc; tailors mend morale.
