Richard’s first days in the Lands Between prove to be far more eventful than expected.
What begins as a simple search for a suitable weapon quickly turns into a journey across the Weeping Peninsula and beyond. A lance is found, giants are challenged, and Castle Morne falls before Richard’s growing confidence. Along the way he encounters talking jars, talking monkeys, wandering merchants, walking mausoleums, and more than one creature that seems determined to make his life difficult.
Not every discovery proves rewarding. Some ruins contain little more than old cookbooks and forgotten trinkets. Some battles end in frustration. Others end with a giant walking bell tower collapsing into the ground. Yet even when treasure is lacking, Richard continues to collect something else: experience, understanding, and a growing appreciation for the strange world around him.
The journey eventually leads him into Caelid, a land unlike anything he has seen before. A place where the earth itself appears diseased, where enormous beasts roam freely, and where dragons soar over a dying landscape. For the first time, Richard comes face to face with creatures he has only heard about in stories. Creatures that will leave a lasting impression on him.
By the end of the day, Richard has secured both halves of the Dectus Medallion, conquered Fort Haight and Castle Morne, survived giant bears, explored forgotten ruins, and uncovered the secrets of a walking mausoleum.
Not a bad beginning for a man who woke up in a graveyard.
Welcome to the beginning of Richard’s story.

He woke in a graveyard and reached for a lance, as if a spine could be borrowed from iron. Funny, how a simple want becomes a road that keeps lengthening underfoot. The world answered him in riddles: a jar that speaks, a monkey with a name, a bell that walks until it remembers to kneel. Even the giants behaved like tutors, brutal and patient, asking only that he learn the weight of his own intent. He gathered more than trinkets he gathered angles of seeing. Each empty ruin was a mirror, each fallen fort a shed skin. In Caelid, the earth’s sickness did not reject him; it recognized him as someone practicing the art of persistence. Dragons arrived like old commandments, and still he did not bow, only listened. Two halves of a medallion fit, and a door somewhere consented. Confidence blooms quickly in such soil. So does consequence. The vow came first; the understanding will be later.
Ha! Richard found a long pokey shovel they call a lance. Good choice. Giants are just tall piles of dirt wearing shoes, so aim for the ankles. That walking bell-house? Probably looking for a softer patch to nap in. Caelid’s crunchy red soil looks delicious does it taste like cinnamon? If I met Dragon Greyll I’d offer a nice hole to cool his feet. Woke up in a graveyard? Best beds. Bring snacks. And always check if the floor wants to be dug first.
