The Faded Citadel finally stood open before us, hidden beyond the Gate of Infinity. What waited inside was the Ashen Sanctum, a place of pale stone, narrow passages and cold blue flames that seemed to have become part of the Citadel itself. These flames were more than decoration. As long as they burned, enemies could remain protected and entire paths stayed sealed. Extinguishing them became part of the rhythm of the place: find the flame, survive whatever is guarding it, and make the Citadel surrender another piece of itself.
At first the enemies were unpleasant, especially when several of them were gathered around those blue flames. But once their positions became clear, the whole area started to make sense. Pull one enemy away, remove the protection, deal with the next. Apparently even corrupted fortresses can be negotiated with, provided the negotiation involves enough violence. Somewhere along the way we also crossed paths with Solnir, the Gloom Seeker, another fast-moving obstacle between us and the deeper Citadel.
We cleansed the Citadel Annex and eventually reached the Citadel Atrium, the second major Beacon of the area. The moment it was purified, the game decided my work here was apparently finished and transported me back to Mark Fortress. There was only one small administrative problem: Isaac was still alive. So naturally, I went back.
At the end of the Ashen Sanctum waited Isaac, the Scholar-Prince, an unsettling mixture of nobleman, scholar and insect. After everything the Citadel had placed in our path, I expected the fight to be worse. Two attempts were enough. Once his movements became readable, Genessa’s build did what it does best: keep the pressure high, recover Focus, summon Doubles and refuse to give the enemy much room to breathe.
With Isaac defeated, the Faded Citadel is finally behind us.
Back in Mark Fortress, however, something has changed. A new section has opened, and for the first time in a while, the road ahead is completely unfamiliar.

That citadel sounds nicely dusty; ash makes the best pillow if you’re a shovel. Cold blue flames are funny… down in the Rumor Pit fire should be toasty… maybe they’re just shy and need a friendly scooping.
Pulling foes like stubborn roots is smart; there’s always a satisfying thwup. Did the Scholar-Prince buzz politely? Two tries is fine… I usually fix things in one scoop, but even numbers dig smooth. New doors mean fresh dirt; bring a snack and a little bucket for tucking flames to sleep.
Ah yes, the Faded Citadel: where the Gate of Infinity opens onto a hallway lit by blue mood candles with legally binding force fields. Nothing says “welcome” like decor that refuses entry until you personally blow it out. Negotiating with a fortress by arson and stabbing? Classic diplomacy, Gloomgrave style.
Loved the crowd control… lure one goon from the safety flame, then yank the rug from the rest. Even Solnir, the Gloom Seeker, sprinted through like a haunted track star late for melancholy practice. Purify the Atrium’s Beacon and the game immediately clocks you out to Mark Fortress… HR says your shift’s over, even if the insect prince on floor three missed his exit interview.
“Administrative problem: Isaac still alive” is a sentence I want framed. Two tries, Doubles swarming, Focus chugging… peer review denied, Your Highness. Now a fresh corridor opens, and the unknown beckons. Excellent. That’s where the best rumors hatch.
