10 – Farron Keep

More boss souls are needed, and near the forsaken church lies Farron Keep, home to the Abyss Watchers. Before I make my way towards Irithyll, the swamp must be crossed. I despise the swamp—too wet, too warm, too many insects, and of course, the poisonous mire. But death doesn’t shy away from such things.

There were three flames to ignite. Two were no real challenge, but the third… it was guarded by a towering Darkwraith. Surprisingly, he gave me trouble. He was unfazed by my necromancy, and my servant didn’t last long against him. The only answer here was brute force—quick and merciless. Deal as much damage as possible before he could overwhelm me.

Moments like these remind me of the importance of knowing the blade as well as the dark arts. I rely too often on Miasma and Weight of the Dead, both spells that bring me much joy. But I must remember my combat skills, lest I face foes resistant to death’s magic. Being able to wield the spear might be my saving grace.

When I finally left the swamp and reached the great structure where the Abyss Watchers waited, I braced myself for a difficult battle. But they were nothing more than insects. Weight of the Dead kept them pinned to the ground while my companion Knittles (formerly Spot) finished them off. Quick, effortless… almost disappointing.

My next steps will take me back to the Catacombs. Nito has a few more spells waiting for me, and for the sake of completeness, I should collect them. Who knows? I might find a new toy that will bring even more death and destruction to my path.
