16 – Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters

Rain dripped from broken statues as Heilay entered the blighted courtyard. No gates, no guards — only wind and a stillness that felt wrong. In the center, beneath a weeping tree, stood Abbess Ursula.

Once, she had been the Mother Superior of the Abbey — a beacon of guidance and discipline. Now she was a twisted relic of devotion, her withering frame wrapped in bloodstained robes. Her chalice shimmered with red light, the unholy drink within restoring her form with every sip. Spells weaved in the air around her like a deadly liturgy.

Heilay said nothing. The time for words had passed.

The battle was merciless. Ursula’s voice cracked the sky with radiant fury, her sorceries drawing blood and faith alike from the earth. She conjured traps of light, holy beams that seared and crippled. But Heilay did not waver. Her flail crashed through sacred wards and broke through the lies of sanctity. As the final blow fell, Ursula staggered, her chalice shattering in her grasp. She crumbled in silence, like the Abbey itself.

Inside, the halls were filled with echoes — prayers long since turned to curses. The once-pure sisters had become husks of zeal, their faces hidden beneath veils of decay. Deeper within, in the shadowed heart of the Abbey, waited the Rapturous Huntress of the Dusk. Swift as duskfall and silent as regret, she danced through the chapel ruins with blades kissed by moonlight.

Heilay fought her through shattered pews and forgotten shrines. It was not strength but patience that won — timing the Huntress’ rhythm, waiting for the slip in grace. One clean strike. Then another. And then none.

With the Abbey purged, the way to The Empyrean was clear. But the road was not yet walked.

Now, beneath a violet sky, Heilay rests at the Vestige of Iorelo the Cursed Knight. Her hands are bloodied, her breath ragged, her purpose intact. The cursed knight’s spirit lingers, watching over her from stone, a silent guardian for the weary.

She knows the air ahead will burn with truths not meant for mortals. But for now, she lets the quiet hold her.

Tomorrow, she rises.
