The Revelation Depths do not welcome. They consume. I descended slowly, boots slick with the condensation of ancient stone, my steps swallowed by the wet breath of the earth. Something down here remembers. And it remembers badly.
It should have been the end of a path—but it wasn’t. Not yet. I turned back. Not in fear. In wisdom. A detour to the Path of Devotion, where silence burns slower, and the air carries a hint of purpose instead of rot. I sharpened my flail. Rewound the straps of my shield. Bought what little comfort I could from merchants who spoke more with their eyes than their mouths. Then I returned. Prepared, not ready. You are never ready down here.
The chamber felt wrong the moment I entered. Not loud—but dense. A heaviness beneath my skin. They were waiting.
Dervla. The Pledged Knight.
Steel-bound. Devotion carved into muscle and movement. Her strikes were not wild—they were precise, cruel, and unrelenting. But she was not alone. The shadows behind her thickened, pulsed, and then—
The Unbroken Promise.
A name, a presence, a nightmare given shape. Floating, whispering, entwined with her purpose. Two parts of the same oath. They moved like one. One cut, one cursed. One bled, one broke.
The first attempt humbled me. The second wounded my pride. The third taught me the rhythm. And the fourth—I stopped thinking. I moved.
I separated them. I tore space between blade and spell. I let instinct guide my dodges, not doubt. My flail struck Dervla with all the weight of Sunless Skein behind it. My shield caught curses meant to unmake me. When she knelt, I felt the shift. The Promise screamed, not with voice, but with existence. And I ended it. For both of them.
Silence returned—but not peace.
I stood over the twin corpses, not out of triumph, but necessity. The path was clear again. Their vow broken, their promise silenced. But I made none.
