In my attempts to gather proper equipment for Asslik, I have come to realize something… playing an assassin feels like an entirely different difficulty tier. Every mistimed dodge, every greedy attack, every weakness in positioning is exposed without mercy.
While my magic characters often wander through the Lands Between almost like tourists on a grim sightseeing journey, Asslik’s path has been far more exhausting.
He does his best, but he lacks both reach and stopping power. Perhaps I am still missing some crucial trick to the assassin’s craft. Perhaps I simply have not uncovered its true rhythm yet. But so far, the Lands Between do not feel like a world built for those who walk in silence. Whenever stealth could truly become an advantage, the enemy seems immune to it, or awakens the moment distance alone is crossed.
This episode brought two particularly unpleasant encounters: the Black Knife Assassin and the Fallingstar Beast. Both felt like hard lessons. I still need much more practice, especially with parrying. Even though I am far better than I was three years ago, it still feels like a dangerous fifty-fifty gamble at times. Asslik remains an incredibly demanding character to play.
For now, I have been experimenting with his Arcane abilities and gathering weapons that fit that path. After Rennala, however, I plan to reshape him into a frost assassin. That means yet another hunt for tools, weapons, and smithing stones… though honestly, I do not mind. I enjoy riding through the Lands Between, taking in the ruins, the silence, and the strange beauty of this dying world.
Before changing direction, I wanted to truly experience bleed and poison properly. Poison itself feels rather underwhelming so far. Two clean strikes often seem more effective than waiting for venom to slowly do its work. Perhaps poison only reveals its true strength later through talismans, buffs, and synergies.
