012 – Raya Lucaria

Asslik’s twelfth journey led her into the ancient halls of Raya Lucaria Academy, though the path inside was anything but welcoming.

Before entering the academy itself, she first cleared the area around the southern gate. There, a Bloodhound Knight clung to the ruins near the entrance, moving with the speed and aggression of a cornered beast. His erratic attacks made him difficult to read, and Asslik struggled to find a safe opening. Then she remembered the small buckler she still carried. Once she trusted it, the fight changed immediately. A well-timed parry broke through the knight’s relentless assault, allowing her to finish him with the precision of an assassin.

Inside Raya Lucaria, the academy presented a different kind of danger. Sorcerers filled the corridors with glintstone magic, while narrow passages and hidden enemies made every careless step dangerous. The Red Wolf of Radagon proved especially troublesome. Its speed, sudden leaps and magical attacks made it difficult for Asslik to close the distance with her short daggers. Every successful strike required patience, careful positioning and the willingness to retreat before the beast could answer.

The Carian knight guarding the lift to the academy’s grand library was another serious obstacle. His sword, shield and sorcery gave him control over both close and long range. Asslik could not simply rush him. She had to wait for mistakes, slip through his defence and strike only when the opportunity was worth the risk.

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, was more difficult than expected. Reaching her was one thing, but surviving the storm of spells in the second phase was another. Asslik’s daggers demanded that she remain close, yet Rennala’s magic punished every direct approach. Rather than forcing the fight, Asslik withdrew and travelled east into Caelid in search of another solution.

There, she hunted the Night’s Cavalry that carried the Bloodhound Step. Asslik had intended to defeat the rider fairly, but the knight seemed determined to create his own ending. He became trapped against the railing of a bridge, unable to free himself. When Asslik finally drew her bow and fired a single arrow, the insult sent him into such a rage that he charged straight over the edge and disappeared into the darkness below.

The victory may not have been elegant, but the reward was exactly what Asslik needed.

With Bloodhound Step, she returned to Raya Lucaria. This time Rennala’s spells were no longer an impenetrable wall. Asslik slipped through the magical barrage, closed the distance and struck before the queen could regain control. What had once seemed overwhelming became manageable, and the lady of the academy was finally won over.

Still, Asslik chose not to spend the night within Raya Lucaria’s walls. Too many sorcerers remained, and ancient academies rarely become safe merely because their ruler has fallen. Instead, she made camp in a concealed place outside the academy, hidden from curious scholars, wandering knights and anything else that might still be searching for her.
