04 – The Catacombs

After traversing the cemetery, I pushed open a large round stone gate, marking the entrance to the catacombs. As I descended deeper, the horrors of Antanas’ gruesome experiments became increasingly evident. Are these atrocities truly meant for the good of mankind? He seeks to extract the evil from individuals, to exorcise their demons, as it were. But aren’t these demons intrinsically part of the people?

I have yet to unravel the role the Rhogar play in this macabre scheme, only realizing that Antanas might not be the savior Kaslo imagines him to be. I feel compelled to confront Antanas, to demand he justify why he’s down here tormenting souls, subjecting them to horrific experiments, and attempting to transform them. The catacombs echo with the desperate pleas of grotesque creatures, each begging for death—a release into the void seems a mercy compared to their endless suffering.

At the catacombs’ end, another Rhogar Commander, the Champion, awaits me. The lines between ally and adversary blur; I still cannot discern whether they are collaborating with or opposing Antanas. Could it be that they are here on account of Antanas? That the invasion by the demons from the Rhogar Empire was not merely an incursion from the demon world?

I must press forward, up to the citadel. I hope to find some clarity there, some answers to the dark questions that plague me.
