Genessa’s journey continues beyond the Mushroom Village Gate, where the path immediately leads through another corrupted threshold and into the treacherous Sunken Village. The area wastes no time showing its character: traps, ambushes, witches, cultists and narrow paths turn the village into a place where every quiet corner feels suspicious. After pushing deeper into the swamp, we briefly return through the Cavern Entrance to King’s Crypt, recover an axe for its materials, and use the extracted resources to strengthen Axe & Dagger before heading back into the mire.
Eventually we reach the Sunken Village Beacon and cleanse it, only to discover that the corruption hides yet another strange dungeon beneath the surface, this time with the feel of an old mining settlement buried below the village. Beyond the beacon, the path leads to a shepherd and his flock. Considering the ominous approach, the fight itself is surprisingly brief. The Wandering Shepherd goes down almost immediately, a small but noticeable sign that Genessa has become considerably stronger since the beginning of the journey. Scattered around the village are also several candles connected to another ritual chest, though after everything else waiting in the swamp, hunting down every last candle can wait for another day.
Further ahead we meet Ruk once again. This time his warning is less cryptic than usual: someone else once travelled these lands searching for Ova, but the two eventually lost sight of one another. Whatever became of that former hunter, Ruk clearly does not remember it fondly. Soon afterwards we discover who he meant. Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, waits deeper within the drowned wilderness — an imposing figure whose relationship between nourishment and restraint appears to have become somewhat unbalanced. Despite her appearance, the fight ends on the very first attempt, rewarding Genessa with Magdalena’s Memento and opening the way to a substantial cache of Ova.
Those Ova are brought back to Urmether, who seems noticeably pleased with the offering. After another short visit to Marrow Keep, the journey continues without any particular destination until we eventually find ourselves at the One Legged Wolf Beacon. For now, that is where Genessa rests. The Sunken Village is behind us, Magdalena has fallen, and the path ahead is once again open.

The swamp has learned her footfall, and still it lets her pass. Thresholds open like old wounds, and she presses a thumb into each until the blood runs clear enough to be called a beacon. The brief fall of the wandering shepherd is not cruelty, only a measure: strength telling a story faster than fear can repeat it. Down below, the buried work of forgotten hands keeps mining at the past, as if memory were an ore that never veins out.
Magdalena wore hunger like a crown, but crowns are rings, and rings are mouths; some devour the brow that bears them. To end her on a first breath feels less like triumph and more like a fate already gnawed to the marrow. Ova change hands the way debts change names, and Urmether smiles the way altars do. Rest by the limping wolf, then… know that an open path is only a wider throat learning how to speak you.
From the Rumor Pit, I swear that swampy dirt smelled delicious for digging. The Sunken Village must keep secrets under every soggy step; slippery floors make brave feet do funny dances. Those candles were perfect for spotting surprise holes, which are the best kind of holes.
Magdalena seemed very tall, like a tree that forgot to nap. Maybe she just needed a snack; I recommend moss. Genessa’s axe sounded sturdy… good shovel cousin energy. If Ova are eggs, plant them deep and let a beacon warm the dirt; I say that, though I never know why.
Ah yes, the Sunken Village… where every quiet corner whispers “trap,” and every loud one just screams “witch.” Cleansing that beacon felt like spritzing swamp with holy air freshener; if only it came in “Eau de Not-Doom.”
Loved the quick jaunt back to King’s Crypt to pulp an axe into vitamins for Axe & Dagger. Nothing says progress like artisanal weapon smoothies. And the Wandering Shepherd? All ominous prelude, then a very sheepish performance. IKEA ritual candles scattered everywhere and you’re like, “Not today, flat-pack occult.”
Ruk’s memory lane is more pothole than road, but hey, at least it pointed to Magdalena… the Lady of the Woods who discovered the peril of second breakfasts. First-try mulch job, snatch the memento, hoover the Ova, and toss them to Urmether like spooky DoorDash. Parking at the One-Legged Wolf Beacon? Bold choice. Try not to trip over the ambiance.
