02 – Flowers, A Vampire Knight and a Very Strange Bug

Our journey with Genessa continues around Mushroom Village, where every path seems to lead somewhere new. We explored more of the outskirts, defeated the nearby Grisha, claimed the Axe & Dagger, cleared Passenger’s Shrine and brought down Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist. Along the way we met Hilga and Grom — a rather suspicious pair, especially since Grom appears to be getting gently cooked in a pot. Hilga herself definitely feels like there is more to her than meets the eye.

Nearby we completed another trial, discovered Proxima and cleared Coward’s Retreat before reaching one of the most beautiful areas so far: a surreal graveyard covered in lush green grass and yellow flowers, surrounded by illusionists and sorceresses. Not far away, huge snails wandered around with bells on their backs. This is becoming my biggest problem with Mortal Shell II: every direction looks interesting, and I never want to push too far because I am convinced I am leaving something behind.

Eventually we reached the Sanguine Caverns and discovered a hidden keep inside a corrupted Beacon. Waiting there was Lucian, a stubborn vampire knight who became especially annoying in his second phase, disappearing and attacking from concealment. After defeating him we received a stone that can coat our weapon in poison — probably perfect for Tiel, but not quite as exciting for Genessa.

Then things got weird. After entering a portal, a bug reduced us to what looked like a tiny rug sliding across the ground. Enemies could not hit us, but we could not attack either, so we went sightseeing through caverns, bridges and deadly pits while several enemies managed to kill themselves trying to reach us. We somehow made it to another Beacon before the Tarblighted Stoner finally ended our carpet-based immortality with his area attacks. After cleansing the Beacon, we returned to Mushroom Village Gate. Next time: the Forgotten Crossbow, the road beyond the gate, and hopefully some map fragments. There is simply too much to explore, too much to kill… and I still have no idea where I am supposed to stop.
