05 – The Black Needle at Last

Genessa’s journey resumes at the One Legged Wolf, though direction quickly gives way to accident. A careless step and an unwanted teleport send us back into the Citadel of Penance, which serves as a useful reminder of why we had been gathering strength in the first place: the Black Needle still waits beyond Sester’s Bastion. We return to the Outskirts of Mammon and follow the Road of Absolution, testing Genessa against soldiers and Grisha Hunters along the way. The difference is immediate. She is faster, stronger, and far more dangerous than during our first visit. Even an overlooked Beacon at Revenant Graves feels less like salvation now and more like confirmation that we are finally ready.

At Abbey Entrance, cleansing the Beacon draws us into the strange Kingdom of Fools, where some collection of deluded survivors has apparently decided that building a village underground was a perfectly reasonable response to the state of the world. At its heart waits Bor, the Deluded Monarch. His reign proves brief. Soon afterwards we reach Sester’s Gate once again. The bells are sounded, the Bastion opens, and the Twin Sesters finally receive the rematch they had earned. This time Genessa’s Faithful Doubles and spectral Grisha tear through the encounter. The weapon that had become something of a personal trial is finally ours: the Black Needle.

Back at Marrow Keep, Axe & Dagger are stripped of their invested materials and the spear is strengthened as far as our resources allow. From there the journey becomes one of experimentation and discovery. We recover the Salvaged Trebuchaxe beneath Gloomshade Grove, find the Crypt Key at Desolate Peak, and later uncover Smert at Prophet’s Rest after filling three blood-filled vessels. The Black Needle quickly proves worth the effort: fast, precise, and blessed with enough reach to keep danger just slightly farther away.

The Ruins of Nochte bring a darker turn. Beyond the Nochtean Gate lies the Abandoned Shrine and Vrago, Solikar Champion — the first opponent in some time to force Genessa to earn every opening. Several deaths later, he finally falls. Ravaged Tomb offers less resistance but rewards us with the Stone of Duality, while Thieves Retreat becomes something stranger entirely: invisible bridges, wandering spirits, creatures waiting beneath the darkness for one misplaced step, and a lonely melancholy hanging over the ruins. Yet despite its atmosphere, the place seems to surrender no great prize. Perhaps something still sleeps there, hidden from sight.

After one final sweep through Nochte, we return to the One Legged Wolf. Genessa now carries the weapon she crossed half the world to claim. The Black Needle is no longer a distant promise. It is hers.
