08 – Walking the Path of Phantom

Episode 08 begins with a simple goal: reshape my weapons around the path I have chosen. The Black Needle has become mine, and if Phantom is to become the language of this journey, then the Nightgrasp Stone is essential. Reaching it was less elegant than I would have liked. The Sesters guarding the way have a talent for appearing from nowhere, and while searching for the candles I managed to step backward off a cliff. A fitting display of grace. Fortunately, the fall revealed a hidden path rather than an early grave, and there I found my first Blackmarrow Key.

Back at Marrow Keep, I reforged my equipment around Phantom. The Salvaged Trebuchaxe now serves as my sidearm, carrying not only a Phantom infusion but another Tarstone that leaves its projectile beneath the enemy for a time, continuing to punish anything foolish enough to remain standing above it. The setup is still young, and the new stones need to be strengthened, but the direction finally feels coherent. The Black Needle for precision, the Trebuchaxe for pressure, and the Faithful Doubles weaving Phantom through everything in between.

There was still unfinished business inside the Desolate Keep. Thankfully, the shortcut from my earlier visit remained open, sparing me the pleasure of repeating the entire dungeon. The Keep is a place of flooded halls, Crossbow Heads, hidden passages and rooms designed to punish impatience. I returned to the chamber with the crossbow enemies and the great sarcophagi, where I discovered that I had overlooked not one hidden wall, but two. Behind them waited my second Blackmarrow Key. The Keep had not been finished after all; it had simply been waiting for me to look more carefully.

The build itself is still taking shape. Nightgrasp has earned its place, but the Black Needle’s main Tarstone remains undecided. For now, I carry one that guarantees a critical strike every fifth hit. Useful, certainly, but perhaps not final. There may yet be something better hidden elsewhere in Mammon.

At least the Shell has changed with the weapons. Genessa now wears a new shade: white, broken by black accents, almost ceremonial in its contrast. A fitting appearance for a build that is becoming less improvised with every journey. The stones still need tempering. The keys still need purpose. And somewhere ahead, I suspect the Black Needle has not yet shown me everything it can become.
